I've tried several times to write a nice calm post regarding Mitt Romney and the Republican party. I tried, many times, to stay calm and stick to the facts. But I can't. I just can't. I am too filled with anger and rage. Rage at those who claim the name "Christian" but are supporting the Republicans not because of their mission to support Biblical values, but because of their mission to put money and business ahead of people.
One thing that I have heard over and over again that just makes me sick: "Well OBVIOUSLY God doesn't have a problem with wealth and people being rich. And as such He wants us to be good stewards of the wealth He's given us and that means standing up to a government that wants to take it away. That means not letting the government help those who aren't willing to work for their own money."
Really? It's OBVIOUS that God doesn't have a problem with wealth? Based on what? The fact that Solomon was rich? Abraham? A handful of others that had a lot of money, animals, servants, etc? What about what God (Jesus) said about wealth?
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."
"If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him?"
"It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."
' “One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will havetreasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” But at these words he was saddened, and he went away grieving, for he was one who owned much property. '
"Blessed are you who are poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.
Blessed are you who hunger now,
for you will be satisfied….
But woe to you who are rich,
for you have already received your comfort.
Woe to you who are well fed now,
for you will go hungry.
Woe to you who laugh now,
for you will mourn and weep."
And let's not forget the example of the earliest Christians as shown to us in Acts:
"All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had.... There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need."
Tell me, which of those statements justifies the hoarding of money and things while allowing your fellow man to life in sickness and starvation?
Any politician or political movement that puts money and business above the well being of people needs to be voted down. Period.
You cannot, by any stretch of the imagination justify wealth over charity. You can't do it. So don't try.
